The grandest of architect Sir Christopher Wren’s churches, St. Paul’s Cathedral is an architectural masterpiece.

Measuring 365-feet tall and situated on the top of Ludgate Hill – the highest point in the City of London – St. Paul’s can be seen from much of the surrounding area.

How many steps is it to the top of St. Paul's Cathedral?
At the top of St. Paul’s is the Golden Gallery (528 steps up) where visitors can get one of our favourite views of central London – you can look west towards Westminster with the London Eye, to the north is the Barbican Centre, east reveals The City and its impressive skyscrapers, as well as Tower Bridge, whilst south you can see The Shard, Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre and The Tate Modern.

As well as the viewing area at the Golden Gallery, the Stone Gallery further down provides a good view. Other areas of note include The Crypt, the interior dome, and the Geometric Staircase.

Multimedia guides are included in the price of admission, and there are guided tours that depart regularly throughout the day. The most comprehensive guided tour lasts 90 minutes and enters areas not usually open to the public. You should allow 1.5 to 2 hours to see the church in its entirety, including climbing to the top.

Those wishing to worship can enter the church at no cost, but will not be able to enter the visitor galleries or climb to the top – tickets must be shown to do this.
